Meet and Greet Airport Parking in the UK

Meet and Greet parking is quite very new to us here in Great Britain, although our contact to American media has made us well aware of the concept of meet and greet or valet parking as it is known over there. Many an episode of Columbo or Magnum was studied in glee as cars were abandoned outside restaurants or nightclubs only for the keys to be tossed to a young lad dressed like a bellboy to speed it off out of site.  Although my life over here in the United Kingdom has yet to see this substitute to parking your own car really take a hold on everyday life, it is becoming more and more common around our country's airports.

The swell in meet and greet airport parking began at the beginning of the 21st century as a direct choice and in many ways opposite to the economical off site car parks that started to clutter the airport perimeters. These more convenient and luxury alternatives were there to provide for those who didn't care paying a little more for the pleasure of not having to walk to a bus and then take another trip to the airport.

Although cheaper parking remains the airport parking of choice for those going on  quick weekend breaks, as the last you want is to pay more for your parking than you have done for your holiday, there now seems to be a lot more acceptance in people  simply driving up to the terminal and handing over their keys.

The tourists who use this product appears to benefit the most are either those with lots of luggage or those with lots of children, along with those who would previously have got in cab to the airport. The rise in the number of travellers taking a winter vacation has also led to the increased embracing of this once so American phenomenon, as who in their right mind want to trudge around carrying  a suitcase and snowboard?

Although it's more expensive for this extra meet and greet service, when you can get a week's parking for roughly  £40, the additional, when you are spending over £1,000 on a family vacation or skiing for a couple, is easily swallowed when set next to the convenience. However, I think it will be a while before i'm pulling up at my local nightclub and shouting "park it kid"?
