And Blackcomb Aviation offers helicopter tours for those that want to do some spectacular sightseeing.

Fans of trail riding can mount one of the fine steeds available at Pemberton Stables, or Copper Cayuse Outfitters, and follow a knowledgeable guide into untouched wilderness. The variety of wildlife that can be seen from horseback is simply amazing. The trails association maintains a network of trails and nature spaces for all kinds of other uses besides horseback riding.

Rafting on the Green River is another exciting summer activity, and a jet boat tour on the river, provided by Whistler Jet Boating is a thrilling way to spend an afternoon.

And let's not forget that mountain biking around Pemberton is as good as it gets on two, leg-powered wheels. Or that motor sports aficionados can get their fill at the recently established motocross and stock car racetrack.

In the winter, Pemberton is home to excellent alpine, backcountry and trail country skiing. Or if you love snowmobiling, consider an introduction to the miles of powder-covered trails around Pemberton offered by Canadian Snowmobile & All Terrain Adventures, and Totally Awesome Adventures. They know where to take you!

As you might expect, the rich soil of the valley makes available some of the finest food to be found anywhere, and there are several establishment that use local, organic produce to cater to the discriminating palate. In addition to the fine dining establishments located at the golf courses, gourmets will enjoy eating out in Pemberton village. For Cantonese, Szechuan, and western meals, there's the Centennial Café. Terrific Italian dishes are to be found at Di Carlo's Italian Restaurant, and for an appetizing snack and a great place to unwind try the Wild Wood Bistro & Bar.

Also located in Pemberton is The Foodlovers Cooking Co., where you will be treated to foods prepared from fruits from Okanagan orchards, fresh west coast seafood, naturally raised local meat, and organically grown berries and vegetables from the local North Arm Farm. The North Arm Farm is a working organic farm, and a visit to the farm is an unforgettable family experience.

And on the subject of locally produced, organic food and drink, drop in at Pemberton's weekly farmers market, and enjoy a farm lunch, or go on the popular Slow Food Cycle tour planned for Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011. For those interested in high quality spirits, a tour and tasting at the Pemberton Distillery, an organic potato vodka distillery, is definitely in order.

More fine foods - as local as possible - can be found at Be Natural, which is also a herbal apothecary, and at the Pemberton Valley Supermarket. And don't miss the scrumptious goodies available at the Blackbird Bakery.

Now that you're well fed, how about some cultural nourishment as well?

For two weeks in February, Pemberton's Winterfest is an extravaganza of sports, music, and the artworks produced by the largest concentration of working artists in the province. Dance at the liveliest Street Party anywhere, pour over the wonders on display at the Artisans Exhibit, and listen to readings by local writers. But only the brave should plunge in the icy water at the midwinter dip.

The Pemberton Heritage Museum, which is open from May to September., is where you can learn about the Lil'wat people, find out what happened when they found gold on the Fraser River, and see such historical homes as Will Miller's hand-hewn cedar house, built in 1894. And if you're lucky enough to visit the museum in June, don't miss the Women's Institute's Strawberry Tea.

The Pemberton Arts Council which represents artists and artisans working in music, theatre, visual, literary, culinary, textile and interactive arts, offers many opportunities for visitors to explore works by and interact with these prolific crafts persons.

Stores in Pemberton offering artworks for sale include Our Glass Works, which specializes in stained glass design and fabrication, The Mute Raven Studio which features photographs, paintings and feather collages, and the Small Potatoes Bazaar, which has a wide variety of gift items as well.

There are numerous sandy beaches at the many popular swimming spots located near Pemberton, as well as fantastic camping. Around the clear, blue lakes of Birkenhead Lake and Joffre Lakes Provincial Parks, hikers may observe spotted owls, mule deer, coastal black deer and mountain goats, as well as black and grizzly bears. In Nairn Falls Provincial Park, the spiritual site of the Lil'wat Nation, you can hike in to stand on the viewing platform, and absorb the majestic splendor of the falls. You might even get a glimpse of the cold-tolerant rubber boa, which lives in the region. And although it has not erupted since 400 BC, nearby Mount Meager, which is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, has produced several hot springs, which are popular destinations in all seasons.
