Since snowmobiles are used during the winter months, it is important to know whether-or-not it will start easily when the machine is cold. Upon arriving, the buyer should see where the owner is storing the machine while not in use. Proper storage should be a place indoors with the track raised off of the ground. This prevents rust and dry rotting of the rubber parts, mainly the track.

Snowmobiles generally sit for a significant part of the year, so the buyer should ask if a fuel stabilizer was used if fuel was kept in the tank during storage. Gas tends to break down and clog carburetor parts and fuel injectors, which could potentially cost a lot of time and money to replace.

One of the most important things to check is if the machine was well-oiled before storage. Proper oiling includes bogeys, shocks, grease fittings, and all of the miscellaneous rubber parts on the chassis. Check to make sure the brakes are in good working order and that the battery, lights, and all other electrical components are functioning properly. All fluid levels and belts should be checked to find out if anything needs to be replaced and to get an idea of how the machine was maintained. Finally, the buyer should start the snowmobile to ensure that it easily starts when it is cold, to listen to the engine and make sure it sounds healthy, and to make sure that there are no leaks in the exhaust.

When selecting the right machine out of the many available Snowmobiles for sale, a proper inspection can save a buyer an extensive amount of money and disappointment. Using this simple advice can make purchasing a used machine less stressful and more enjoyable.
