Winter in Winter Park Colorado
Winter Park, Colorado is by far the coolest place to visit for a winter vacation! The term “coolest” covers many meanings for this town as it neighbors Fraser, Colorado, otherwise known as the “ice box of the nation”. Winter is also a serious season for the destination as the cool winter temperatures guarantee a winter wonderland from December through most of April.
Nestled along the Continental Divide and surrounded by the Arapahoe National Forest, Winter Park Ski Resort averages over 370 inches of snow a year. This makes for some mighty great powder days and a sure bet for quality skiing. The Ski resort features three mountains all on one ticket; The Mary Jane, Winter Park and The Vasquez. Terrain varies in an equitable ratio of beginner to intermediate to expert and advanced runs. Ski and Skiing Magazine has even rated the Winter Park terrain parks and half pipe as some of the best in North America! There is truly something for everyone and enough to keep even the most avid skier or rider busy for weeks.
Although skiing and snowboarding are the main activities in Winter Park for winter vacationing, there are many other things to do as well. A family favorite is snowmobiling in Winter Park along the Continental Divide on a guided ride. Imagine racing along the winter swells and snow drifts high above tree line with miles of blue sky stretching above you. Snowmobiling suits those that are looking for the adrenaline rush and adventure experience.
For those that want something more laid back and comforting, enjoy the hot springs near Winter Park. Soak in the therapeutic waters at the Hot Sulphur Springs Resort located just down the road from Winter Park. The Native American tribes of the western part of Colorado claimed the waters were medicinal and sought out the location well into the late 1800’s. With over 20 separate pools of varying sizes and temperatures, even Goldilocks would find the one that’s “just right!” The resort also offers massages, facial wraps and a small sundry lounge.
Enough about outdoors; there are a variety of restaurants in Winter Park as well as unique and fun shopping. It may be a small town, but the people here like to eat! Cooper Creek Square alone features dining from: Chinese, Indian, Mexican, Italian and a Barbeque Smokehouse. There are also two Sushi restaurants in downtown along with a hoppin’ pizza place. And whether you want a souvenir t-shirt or a local piece of art, the shops and galleries won’t disappoint.
Although other ski destinations may feature similar winter attractions, Winter Park stands apart in its accessibility and charm. Located only 90 miles from Denver International Airport, the town is the closest of the major ski resorts. The town is small and easy to get around with free parking everywhere except right at the base. A free local town shuttle system will also transport skiers throughout the valley to the ski area and back. Shopkeepers, vendors and locals are friendly and care about the experiences and perceptions of the area. Ask any local for a favorite place to go or something to do and the answers won’t disappoint.
While in Winter Park, the Beaver Village Condominiums offer the ideal Winter Park lodging and the best value in condominium nightly rental accommodations. The centrally located Clubhouse features a swimming pool, three hot tubs, sauna, guest laundry and meeting space. The condominiums have a full kitchen, balcony, fireplace, free wireless internet, living and dining room. Located only 2 blocks from town and within 1.5 miles from the base, the condos are tucked off the main street, while being highly accessible.

Snowmobile Stud $79.66 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Snowmobile studs are small metal projections added to the track of a snowmobile in order to increase traction and maneuverability and decrease stopping time and distance. They may be made from steel or stainless steel with carbide tips, and are designed for specific terrains in varying lengths, shapes and materials. However, the studs may do damage to asphalt roads and trails, and some communities have banned their usage. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. Snowmobile Skipping $68.51 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Although the idea seems to defy the odds, the main idea of Water Skipping/Watercross is to cross from one point to another on water while riding a snowmobile. It is possible because snowmobiles have wide tracks for traction and flotation in the snow, hitting the water at an acceptable speed and keeping the sleds throttle open, the track keeps the snowmobile on the surface of the water without sinking. If the rider backs out of the throttle or the sled bogs or floods out, the sled will sink. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 18 Publication Date: 2010/08/22 Language: English Dimensions: 6.00 x 9.02 x 0.04 inches |
