Lapland Holiday And Why Yllas Is The Perfect Family Holiday For Both Summer And Winter

Yllas is a small quiet village in the heart of Lapland, its population stands at aroiund 400 people and the locals often comment that the supermarket in the centre of the village is transformed in the winter months into an unusally busy place to be. Largely uncommercialised many holiday makers looking for a santa break or skiing holiday would quite often opt for the larger resort of Levi, levi has its advantages and is a much larger and busier place than Yllas. Yllas is still reletively uncommercialsied, being the origonal home of sant claus, it certainly hasn't lost it's santa magic. The Lapp village in the centre of Yllas is the most magical place and the home to Santa. Lapp village as well as offering private meetings with santa also has a range of activities for the adults and the children including snowmobiling, the northern lights walk and many more. After your visit to see santa you can wonder around the wonderful santa shop, stocked with the most amazing unusual toys and artefacts. The restaurant attached to Lapp village is Poro, Poro offers the most beautiful traditional finish food for those of you wanting to try the local fare. For those of you wanting more traditional English meals, this is also on offer.

 

Skiing in Yllas really is second to none. If you are lucky enough to visit in the month of December you will find the slopes very quiet. With the skiing season not yet really taken off, the slopes are quiet and ideal for first time skiers. The slopes in Yllas are the largest downhill and cross country ski centre in Finland. It has the countries largest vertical run, the most runs and the longest run (3km).  Yllas is also home to the largest network of floodlit cross country ski trails. For those of you interested in snowmobiling or wanting to try it for the first time, Yllas has access to 300km snowmobile tracks with an abundance of hire shops. There are also an abundance of places offering various activities that will be ideal for every level of experience and also for families with children.

 

The restaurants are also fantastic in Yllas, again there is a wide variety of choice for all of the family. Jullis is a great place, a traditional bikers bar,  it offers traditional Lapland fare but also typical english meals that the kids will absolutely love. All of the other restaurants are ideal and cater well for the children.

 

To mention all of the activities that you can do in Yllas Lapland would take far too long but you absolutely must visit the KonijaNKAN wildlife park in the centre of Yllas. The wildlife park is a wonderful experience for the children, as well as a large selection of weird and wonderful animals for you to see and pet, there are various sled runs for the children to have fun on and whilst they do that you can sit warm and snuggly by the fire and toast your own sausages. Another favourite is the Ice hotel, situated about an hours drive from Yllas, the ice hotel is constructed every year from ice blocks and is a magnificant sight. You can have a drink in the ice bar from ice glasses and if you are brave enough you can even stay the night in the ice hotel, they have various rooms ranging from the princess rooms to the northern ligfht rooms. I hope you enjoy your stay in Yllas if you are lucky enough to go, it truly is a magical place.
