The FZ750 is notable as predecessor of the highly successful Yamaha FZR1000. Yamaha released the FZ750 in 1985. The bike was popular, and competed well against others in the sport class of motorcycles. The machine was noticeably narrower than many contemporaries, Yamaha achieved this by placing the alternator behind the cylinders instead of the more normal position on the end of the crankshaft. The FZ750 uses an all aluminium liquid cooled tranverse mounted, in line four cylinder engine. The complex cylinder head is constructed in two halves with dual chain driven overhead camshafts operating twenty valves, 3 inlet and 2 exhaust per cylinder. Valve clearances are adjusted with under lifter shims. The four 36mm Mikuni constant velocity downdraft carburettors are mounted in a bank behind and above the cylinders and feed each cylinder through short intake manifolds. Introduced in 1984, it became an immensely popular model for Yamaha and spawned several followup models (such as the Phazer II, Phazer Deluxe, Phazer Mountain Lite, Phazer FX, and Phazer GT); its design features were also incorporated into other models (such as latermodel Exciters as well as the Venture Lite). Of particular note on the Phazer is way in which the headlight is directly connected to the handlebars so that the headlight follows the direction of a turn. This feature was certainly new among Yamaha models when it was introduced in 1984, and Yamaha claims that it and other features began a new era in snowmobiling. The Phazer was always known for its sharp handling, freerevving 485cc fancooled engine, solid reliability (most notably on Phazer II), light weight, and most importantly, value. In an attempt to repeat the success of the SR 500, Yamaha placed a more modern engine derived from the XT 600 into a light, sportive street bike. While still being an aircooled, overheadcamshaft single cylinder like its predecessor, the new engine featured a fourvalved cylinder head, a twostaged carburetor, a balance shaft, and various improvements. The chassis was a lightweight steel frame with alloy wheels, a double disc brake on the front and a single disc brake on the rear wheel. However, unlike its cheaper predecessor, the SRX 600 did not compete well on the international market. Nimble handling, light weight, and unique styling did not compete well with the heavier, faster multicylinder bikes available for not much more money. Still, Yamaha claims to have sold 19,000 units of the SRX. In the USA, the SRX was officially sold only in 1986; in Germany, sales continued until 1990. It evolved as a natural replacement for the popular RD 250/350 LC series of the 1980s It has Yamaha Power Valve System (YPVS) which raises and lowers the exhaust port depending on the rpm of the engine, the YPVS servo starts to open at about 6,000rpm. In standard form 50bhp is claimed at 10,000rpm. Although mid 40s is more realistic, and will not rev much above 9,500rpm in standard trim owing to the restrictive standard exhausts and ignition boxes. Production started in June 1986. At a cost of around 6,000 new on release it was seen as an expensive bike for a 250 cc, but given that places such as Japan and Australia had 250 licencing laws in place one can imagine the stir that something that could hassle 750s on a track caused. 2MA variant being the UK variant and the 1KT model being the domestic Japanese variant. The bore and stroke are 64x54 mm. It produces 30.4 ft.lbf (41.2 N.m) of torque at 7500 rpm. Coming out in 1983, it was the evolution of Yamahas popular and well known RD350 (197275) and RD350LC (198082). Production was carried on into the 1990s and a different version with no YPVS power valve in the engine was used in Yamahas Banshee ATV until its final model year in 2006 in the United States. Yamaha Motor sold the Banshee in Canada until 2008. There were several other models, the 1985 RZ350F, 198692 RZ350F2, N, NF, and the 19925 RZ350RR was produced in Brazil. The 750R was the only available version offered to consumers in the US. The Honda Fireblade and Suzukis GSXR750 tended to overshadow it on the road and the R1 has taken over on the track but the YZF remains an excellent bike. The 749cc inline fourstroke engine, with five valves per cylinder, is revhappy and the delivery is linear due to the EXUP valve. Power builds steadily, but really takes off at the topend. Its predecessor was known as just Yamaha Libero. Unlike Libero G5, Libero had round head lights, and taco meter but lacked fuel gauge. However, Libero G5 came with a sporty head light and fuel gauge, but lacked the tachometer (RPM Meter). A new set of air scoops with a honeycomb grille do dual duty; directing airflow over the engine block and also neatly covering the gap between the engine and the fuel tank. The Libero G5s frame continues to be the tubular dual cradle type. Yamaha has introduced a compulsive pressure wet sump lubrication system in the 106 cc engine of the Libero G5. This new system works on a constant pressure build up that is generated by the engine itself thus enables the engine oil/ lubricant to flow evenly over all the engine components, unlike conventional lubrication that works more on gravitational forces thus may not perform as effectively.
